How about the Art School adopting open formats? Then we wouldn’t have the problem of staff not being able to read open documents. Today would be a good day to think about it as March 26 is Document Freedom Day (DFD). On March 26th, events and activities across the world will be held to promote adoption of free document formats such as the Open Document Format (ODF).
Uploading a pdf
March 25, 2008Well I tried. I saved my homework for week 5 as a pdf file and tried uploading it but despite WordPress saying they accept pdfs I got a message saying my file breached security guidelines. I wonder why?
I was trying to post online so Rodney didn’t have to download OpenOffice to read my homework. Pity Microsoft is so myopic it wont let itself open an OpenOffice document. I thought I saved my homework as a doc file so it could be opened by MS Office, but maybe I didn’t.
In OpenOffice I can open any document (including Microsoft docs) I can export as a pdf file as well. It is free and open source software so Polytech could install on all their PCs without cost.
Einstürzende Neubauten
March 15, 2008I had a look at Lars’ blog and liked the video he posted. Here is another one from the same group, Einstürzende Neubauten:
Grad show at the Blue Oyster
March 6, 2008I saw the Grad Show last year so I just popped into the Blue Oyster to see who had been chosen. I would be interested to know the selection criteria. I suppose it was a combination of quality and ability to show (ie presence).
There was a lot of good work at the Grad show. I would have chosen differently for the Blue Oyster.
